February 26th

In part of our NT reading in Mark for today, we see the matter of Jesus being the Messiah is addressed:

Mark 8: 27 And Jesus went on with his disciples to the villages of Caesarea Philippi. And on the way he asked his disciples, “Who do people say that I am?” 28 And they told him, “John the Baptist; and others say, Elijah; and others, one of the prophets.” 29 And he asked them, “But who do you say that I am?” Peter answered him, “You are the Christ.” 30 And he strictly charged them to tell no one about him.

Jesus charged His disciples that they not reveal His identity, yet. He then goes on to tell them:

Mark 8: 31 And he began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes and be killed, and after three days rise again. 32 And he said this plainly.

Jesus taught that He MUST suffer many things and be killed. It was part of God’s plan to bring salvation to humanity. Peter did not like this and rebuked Jesus for saying it, but Jesus rebukes him back. How hard it must have been for the disciples to hear this. They do not take it fully to heart until the events actually occurred.

In this day and age, it has been approximately 2000 years since Jesus was brutally killed upon the cross, but He is the Christ, still. He fulfilled His mission for that time and lived a perfectly sinless life and was the pascal lamb that was sacrificed for our sins, then He triumphantly rose from the dead. May we acknowledge simultaneously both soberly and joyfully what the Savior has done for us. Thank You, Lord, for Your love for us. We are in Your blessed Kingdom. Truly we overcome in You.

Mark 8: 34 And calling the crowd to him with his disciples, he said to them, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. 35 For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake and the gospel's will save it.

Prayer for Today:
Lord, thank You that You are with all of our imprisoned brothers and sisters. Encourage them with Your presence. Quell their fears and soothe their hearts. Amen.
